How to use Ardex Feather Finish (10 lb)
- 1Mix one 10 lb bag of Ardex Feather Finish with about 2 1/2 quarts (2.4 L) of water — for smaller batches, use 2 parts powder to 1 part water by volume.
- 2Mix to a smooth, lump-free, pancake-batter consistency with a margin trowel or drill and paddle.
- 3Apply with a trowel to fill gouges, seams, and low spots, feathering the edge to a true zero — that’s where the name comes from.
- 4One 10 lb bag covers roughly 300 sq ft as a thin skim coat, or about 16.7 sq ft at a full 1/4" thickness — use whichever matches how thick your patch needs to be.
- 5It’s self-drying (it doesn’t need to air-cure like a standard patch compound), so you can typically install your new flooring in as fast as 15–20 minutes once it’s dry to the touch.
- 6Sand lightly if needed once dry for a perfectly flat transition before your floor covering goes down.

FAQ
How do I know if I need a patch compound or a full self-leveling pour?
Small gouges, seams, and low spots (under about 1/4") are a job for a patch/skimcoat compound. A subfloor that’s sloped, or has low spots across a large area, needs a self-leveling underlayment that pours and finds its own level. Ask us if you’re not sure which your floor needs.
How long before I can install flooring over it?
Cure time depends on the product and your new floor covering — check Ardex Feather Finish (10 lb)’s bag for the exact window, and always confirm before laying flooring over a fresh pour.
