How to use Mapei Planipatch Fast-Setting Patching Compound

  1. 1Clean the subfloor of dust and loose debris first.
  2. 2Prime if the product calls for it — most self-levelers and patch compounds need a compatible primer on concrete.
  3. 3Mix with water to the consistency the bag specifies, using a drill and paddle mixer for a lump-free batch.
  4. 4Pour or trowel it on, feathering patch compounds to a true zero edge, or spreading self-levelers with a gauge rake.
  5. 5Let it cure fully per the bag’s schedule before installing your new floor — cure time varies by floor covering type.

FAQ

How do I know if I need a patch compound or a full self-leveling pour?

Small gouges, seams, and low spots (under about 1/4") are a job for a patch/skimcoat compound. A subfloor that’s sloped, or has low spots across a large area, needs a self-leveling underlayment that pours and finds its own level. Ask us if you’re not sure which your floor needs.

How long before I can install flooring over it?

Cure time depends on the product and your new floor covering — check Mapei Planipatch Fast-Setting Polymer-Modified Cement-Based Patching Compound - 4.4 lb’s bag for the exact window, and always confirm before laying flooring over a fresh pour.
