How to use Mapei Primer T All-Purpose Primer for Self-Leveling Underlayments
- 1Confirm the substrate (concrete, wood, gypsum) is clean, dry and free of paint, sealers or curing compounds.
- 2Dilute or apply the primer per the ratio on the container — some primers are used neat, others are diluted with water.
- 3Apply in a thin, even coat with a roller or brush, avoiding puddles.
- 4Let it dry fully (most primers turn from milky to clear when ready) before pouring a leveler or spreading adhesive over it.
- 5Never apply your next product over wet or tacky primer — check the dry-time window on the label for the day’s temperature and humidity.

FAQ
Do I always need to prime before pouring a self-leveler?
On absorbent concrete, yes — nearly every self-leveling underlayment manufacturer requires a compatible primer first so the leveler doesn’t dry too fast at the surface and lose its bond. Skipping the primer is one of the most common causes of a self-leveler failing to bond.
